Laser Tattoo Removal Process and FAQ’s
Step 1: Tattoo Removal Consultation
An examination of the tattoo to be removed is required before any laser treatment. This can take up to an hour (usually 30 minutes). Beyond examining the tattoo, we consider health history, and explain the procedure You will understand the risks and benefits as well as your options before we even begin. We’ll also be able to better etablish the price per treatment.
How is the Tattoo Removed ?
A special laser (called a Q-switched laser) is required to remove the tattoo without leaving a scar. The laser dissolves the ink without damaging the skin. The speed at which the laser operates allows for a relatively pain free procedure. Q-switched laser tattoo removal is state of the art. Earlier methods involved the use of dermabrasion, salibrasion, C02 lasers and even surgery and very often left scarring. You may also see tattoo removal creams on the market. Flat-out… they don’t work!
Is it Painful?
A tattoo was added to your skin using thousands of tiny pinpoint injections. THAT HURT! The process of removing the tattoo is far less painful and less tramautic. The laser pulses short flashes. You may feel the sensation of the laser but nothing like what you went through to get the tattoo in the first place! We do offer injectable or topical numbing so you may feel minimal or no pain at all. Remember tattoo removal does not have to hurt and we will take extra time to make sure you are comfortable. The experience you see in this video is not unusual.
Will I have a Scar?
The chance of scarring is less than 5%, if you follow the after care instructions. The risk of scarring can increase for pregnancy, dark skin tone, poor circulation, immune system deficiencies, taking Accutaine, some health conditions, taking certain medications, or having a history of keloids or elevated scarring. Providing state of the art technology helps ensure clients that the risk of scarring is dramatically reduced. There have been occasions where some lighter or darker colored pigment persists from the tattoo site, but normally after the course of treatments is complete, the treated area is indistinguishable from the normal surrounding skin.
Does it Work on All Colors?
The best way to answer this question is to come in for a consultation. Laser tattoo removal works on most colors but not all. You’ll know before you do the treatment what to expect.
Remember when you got your tattoo? You had to baby it a little. We want the best healing environment possible after your tattoo is removed to minimize any chance of scarring. An antiseptic healing ointment and a bandage will be applied to the area. The treated site should be kept clean and dry that day, and out of the sun. A shower can be taken the next day, and the site should not be scrubbed. Each client will receive a customized take home kit with the supplies and instructions needed at no additional cost.
